Introduction
In 1995, the Museum opened a temporary exhibition based on the experience of African Americans in the Civil War. Preparation for this exhibition led to the compilation of the most comprehensive bibliography on the subject in existence and the creation of a documentary film on the subject. After the temporary exhibition closed, the Museum installed a permanent exhibit in its galleries to commemorate the important contributions of African Americans on the American frontier.
